In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the UFC seems to have an “International Fight Week” to remember. On Saturday, July 8, there will be two big fights with t**les at stake. UFC 290 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The main event will feature Alexander Volkanovski defending the UFC featherweight t**le against interim champion Yair Rodriguez . Volkanovski turned pro in 2012. After joining the UFC in 2016, he is 12-1 with the promotion. He defeated Max Holloway in 2019 for the featherweight t**le, the first of three wins against the former champion, and has defended the belt four times.

This will be Volkanovski’s first defense since July 2022: his most recent bout was a loss to UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in February.

Rodriguez turned pro in 2011 and won The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America in 2014. He is 4-2 with one no-contest in his last seven fights. Prior to this fight, Rodríguez defeated Josh Emmett via submission to win the interim belt . He now seeks to continue the recent tradition of champions from Mexico.

Speaking of Mexico, the co-main event will see Brandon Moreno defend the UFC flyweight t**le against Alexandre Pantoja . Moreno turned pro in 2011 and joined the UFC in 2016. After being cut by the promotion in 2018, he won the LFA flyweight t**le before returning to the UFC that year. In the last leg of him, Moreno is 6-1-2.

Moreno just completed a tetralogy with Deiveson Figueiredo that began in 2020. They fought to a draw at UFC 256 for the flyweight t**le; Moreno submitted Figueiredo to win the belt in 2021, and Figueiredo defeated Moreno to regain the belt in 2022. In his last fight, in January, Moreno reclaimed the flyweight champion by TKOing Figueiredo.

Pantoja turned professional in 2007. The Brazilian joined the UFC in 2017 and is 9-3 with the promotion. He competed against Moreno in 2018, beating him via unanimous decision. Before that, he bested him in an episode of The Ultimate Fighter. Pantoja is riding a three-fight winning streak, defeating Alex Perez via submission in his last bout in July 2022.
